It's easier to follow your daily diet and exercise program during the week days than in the weekend. All the hard work you do is thrown away in those days. The worst comes Monday morning when you think about restarting all the diet and exercise cycle all over again and face the regrets of these weekend temptations. Don't get caught in this unproductive cycle.
First, you have figure out what leads you to drop your routine. You come to will realize that you stop almost every routine in your life during the weekend: waking hour, hours at work, even lunch time. Then there are other powerful detours, like dates, family gatherings, special dinners, and in almost all of them you will find rich deserts and all kinds of food not part of a healthy program. That's the problem. The solution is that you have to follow a plan, and if you can't plan ahead you will astray from your ultimate goals.
First, every time you face some temptation consider the regrets you will face Monday morning. Then try to minimize it with some small measures. Make different weekend goals: maybe a little less ambitious than on regular weekdays, but they will be good to keep you focus. A good idea is to set Monday as the official “weight day”. This way you will keep in mind the importance of watching what you eat all weekend.
If you plan to go out on a trip with your family, try to propose an outdoor activity with a physical element involves, like a walk or a bike ride. If your weekend’s plans include going out of home all day, remember to pack some healthy snacks; you will have a good alternative if you get hungry.
If you can’t avoid eating out or have a mandatory meal with your companions, you could make some fieldwork and find what the options in the menu are in order to be prepared, selecting the more healthy options (if you could find the Nutritional information that would be even better).
Last but not least, don't turn your weekend into the days you indulge yourself with little sweets and desserts because you avoided these all week. It is better to allow yourself a treat once in a while during the weak, so you don't have an excuse to go over board with them at weekends; avoid irresistible cravings.
